RSFRC Election: Joseph Emerges Chairman

Gighi Joseph has emerged chairman of Rivers State Football Referees Council. Gighi Joseph contested the position of chairman with three able generals to emerged the chairman of the Rivers State football Referees Council, defeating the other two candidates who contested the chairmanship position with him at liberation stadium, Port Harcourt December 5, 2014.

Wokoma Solomon, secured 7 votes, Dima Dennis Charles secure 4 votes and Gighi Joseph securing 17 votes out of the 24 delegates that were accredited. It was a fairly and keenly contested election that gives no room for doubt.

Osaretin Omorusi was the electoral officer and Nwaehu Kingsley, legal Adviser was secretary to electoral council to have conducted the most matured, peaceful and credible election devoid of crisis and complaints.

The Rivers State football Association was fully represented as chairman of the board, Barr. Christopher Green, Chief Omini Okile, Vice Chairman and Ibigoni Benjamin Akobo, secretary of Rivers State Football Association, Sunny Osekweme, coach of Sharks Football club of Port Harcourt were all there.

In his acceptance speech, newly elected chairman of the Rivers State Football Referees Council, Gighi Joseph said, “I promised, I will use your mandate judiciously, I promised to cooperate with you all.

Thank you very must for giving me the mandate to serve you”.

Ibigoni Benjamin Akobo, scribe to Rivers State football Association, who also was an observer, admonished the new chairman of council to know that his victory should not be seen as personal, rather he should endeavour to embrace all member to achieve greater things for the council.

Adding that his predecessor has set a high target for him to fulfil, pointing out that it will be wise for him to work towards accommplishing them.

He used the occasion to inform the Rivers State Football Referees Council to understand that his associate, Rivers State Football Association has resolved to punish erring referees who are fond of coming late to officiating matches. ###
