Let Us Respect Our Elders

father-son-wrist-fight-10645615Of recent I have come to discover that one thing that can give someone a long life is not what he or she eats, but to respect elders and constituted authority(ies).

When St. Paul was writing to the saints in the Ephesus, he admonished them to obey their parents, honour their fathers and mothers, so that it may be well with them, and they would live long on earth.

Also one of the Ten Commandments, God gave to Prophet Moses on Mount Sinai was to give honour to parents.

Considering the divine law, the God Almighty has instituted for man mankind to follow, any attempt to violate it might attract dangerous consequences such as premature death, suffering while living on earth, disgrace and other forms of reproaches, that will be difficult to bear.

Today it is very common to see young people insulting their elders, chiefs and traditional rulers in the name of politics.

In the Traditional African Society it is forbidden to insult an elder, no matter the offence.

The African society can decide to ostracize anyone who abuses a senior.

It is only in the politics of 21st century we see subordinates abuse their superior. If not how can someone will get up one day and insult the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is a taboo in the Traditional African society.

Let us learn how to respect our elders so that our days will be long while sojourn on the planet earth. ###
