The relationship between the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Otelemaba Dan Amachree and Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is no longer cordial following the adoption of Hon. Dakuku Peterside as the governorship flagbearer of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The adoption of Hon. Peterside as the governorship candidate of Rivers APC in 2015 is against the decision of the speaker of the RSHA, Rt. Hon. Dan Amachree. The speaker supported Senator Magnus Abe. The Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abe last week crashed out of the governorship race on the platform of the APC, which cleared the coast for the federal parliamentarian in the lower chamber of the National Assembly representing Andoni/Opobo Federal constituency to pick the gubernatorial ticket ahead of February 28, 2015 governorship election.
The speaker has become uncomfortable with Peterside’s candidature considering his plan to deputise Senator Abe.
The initial political permutation was that, if Senator Abe emerges as the governorship flagbearer of the APC, the speaker will become his running mate. Now that the Senator Abe is out of the race, the speaker is not happy with some chieftains of the party in the state over the choice of Dakuku.
According to a political aide, the speaker is threatening to take steps that will not be acceptable with Peterside’s gubernatorial ambition.
However, information reaching our political desk revealed that the speaker has finally picked the Rivers West Senatorial ticket in the APC to contest the 2015 general election. ###
