A report filed by our crime correspondent on Monday had it that, forty five million naira (N45m) meant for the empowerment of the twenty (20) out of the twenty eight (28) youths that were trained in the German Chamber of Crafts in Germany is now missing in the Rivers State Ministry of Education.
It would be recalled that the state government on November, 2013 sent a total of twenty eight (28) youths of Rivers origin to study in Germany, that after completion of their study they will take over the management of the Port Harcourt Technical Vocational Centre (PHTVC), Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
However, the programme which supposed to last for 3 years, this publication gathered that, the youths were forced to undertake only three (3) weeks, “trained the trainers course” in Germany.
According to information reaching our newsdesk, the youths having returned to the state, the Government had refused to employ them rather only eight (8) secured job in the PHTVC, while 20 of them are now roaming the streets of Port Harcourt searching for jobs.
Just few weeks ago, The Newswriter reliably informed that, the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has released a sum of N45m to settle the 20 youths who are yet to be engaged or secured employment in the PHTVC.
Since the Governor released the said amount to the Ministry of Education, the relevant staff and department are yet to disburse the money to the affected youths.
One of the youths who spoke to our correspondent disclosed that his colleagues would soon stage a protest to the Government House if the Ministry fails to disburse the fund to them.
All efforts to contact the Commissioner for Education, Dame Lawrence Nemi proved abortive.###
