The fracas in the National Assembly (Federal House of Representatives) has attracted reactions from several quarters. The Rivers State All Progressive Congress (APC), chairman, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya has responded, calling it act of advancement of the polity and a step that will improve the democracy.
Speaking to newsmen in his office recently, Ikanya described the incident as a continuation of the struggle to entrench true democracy in the nation and effort to conquer impunity in the society and struggle to ensure that everybody right is respected in Nigeria.
Ikanya stressed that the situation should energize Nigerians’ willingness to press further or insist on democracy and respect of the rule of law.
According to Ikanya nothing called for the attention of the police that day, coming to invade and disrupted the lawmakers sitting. He
disagreed with the police security report which said that some hoodlums were to invade the Assembly that day.
He said that the lawmakers should have been allowed to do their debate and arrive at a solution.
Ikanya urged the police and INEC to stay neutral in the general election.
He pointed out that the action of the police, APC cannot be satisfied with alleged that the police is supporting PDP added that level playing ground by the police and INEC will make politicians not to grumble as loosers will go home believing he did not make his home work.
He condemned the police action said it does not support what APC which stand for change and democracy support, warned that the Nigeria police should learn to be law abiding so that they can protect and enforce the law. ###
