PHFRS Extols Evergreen Virtue of Foremost Referee

The Port Harcourt Football Referees Society (PHFRS) has extolled the good exemplary virtues of foremost late Pa Green, who was intered over the weekend at his home town, Bonny.

Pa Green is the father of Barr. Christopher Green, who is the Chairman of Rivers State football Association and one time Sports Commissioner of Sports in Rivers State during Sir. Celestine Omehia.

Pa Green was one of the foremost referees that gave refereeing in the football games a face as he was quoted as being fair and firm in his judgment in officiating matches.

Disciplined, principled and loving, who takes the players as his own children. Irrespective of where the team or play comes from.

Speaking to The Newswriter sports, the chairman of Port Harcourt Football Referees Society (PHFRS), Everest Nwanchukwu said, the Referee fraternity has indeed lost an icon in the profession.

According to him, refereeing was given a brand in the good old days of Pa Green, matches were won on merit not by the aid of some referees as is applicable today in some games.

“Pa Green brought peace, love, unity and above all togetherness to the profession, which earned him international recognition, we wish we still find his likes in the profession”

Pa Green is gone in the eyes of the living but his virtues will be forever remembered by the Port Harcourt Football Referees Society (PHFRS)” Chairman Nwanchukwu said.

As mark of respect to the late Pa Green, a novelty football match was played in his honour at the Sharks stadium on Saturday as part of his burial rite by the Port Harcourt Football Referees Society. ###
