Chai Measles Campaign Halted In Asalga

The Chai Measles Campaign scheduled to commence between 18th to 20th November, 2014 did not take place in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State. The Primary Health Care Workers in the LGA stopped the exercise due to the on going strike embarked upon by the Primary Health Care Workers across the twenty-three (23) LGAs of the state.

The Asalga Primary Health Care Workers constituted a 10 man taskforce led by their chairman, Comrade Benibo Joshua that halted the Chai Measles Campaign in the area.

The vaccines meant for the exercise were also seized and the vehicles (Keke Napep) confiscated by the angry and the striking Primary Health Workers.

“The government and the relevant agencies should know that there was nothing like Chai Measles Campaign in Asalga. Nobody should go and falsify any information,” the primary health care workers told our correspondent.

They warned the Local Immunization Officer (LIO) not to give wrong data to the government concerning the exercise, adding that the Asalga Primary Health Care Workers do not participate hence the campaign did not hold in the LGA.   ###
