Abonnema, the headquarters of the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State was on Monday deserted following an attack by unknown gunmen.
The gunmen numbering about thirty (30) struck at the popular Bedone Hotel, Abonnema, killing three (3) persons and injured over 30. One of the persons killed was a councillorship aspirant in ward 6 on the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), simply identified as Mr. Mike Ike. And another person killed was popularly known as “Barrister” while the identity of the third person who lost his life is yet to be known at the time of filing in this story.
According to information reaching our crime desk, the ugly incident took place at about 1.00am in the early hours of Monday. The reason or rational behind the deadly attack was not known as at the time of going to the press.
As at the time of filing this story, the Bedone Hotel has been shut down. Our correspondent gathered that the Hotel belongs to Hon. Elecmhukwu Ogbowu, a former lawmaker in the Rivers State House of Assembly. ###
