As part of the Educational commitment of the Government of Rivers State in the payment of Bursary and Scholarship to students of Rivers State Origin, the Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, CON has graciously approved and magnanimously provided 1 Billion Naira for the payment of students Bursary and Scholarship of Overseas students despite the shortfall of monetary allocation to the State by the Federal Government.
This was hinted by the Chairman of the Rivers State Scholarship Board (RSSB) Hon. Benjamin Sam. Orugbani, JP in his office on Thursday, 6th November, 2014 to newsmen. Hon. Orugbani stated that the Bursary payment will cover two solid years of 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 respectively.
Orugbani said, following this development of approval and provision of money to the Rivers State Scholarship Board to conduct the payment of Bursary, the Board shall commence payment on Monday, 10th day of November, he said. Even as the Board shall continue to authenticate students for payment by way of continuous Re-verification of beneficiary students.
According to him, Time Table for the Re-verification exercise and Requirement for the continuous Re-verification exercise include : JAMB/School Admission Letter, School Identification Card, Local Government Identification Letter, Re-validation of Bank Account Details, and Students Mobil Phone Number.
He however, thanked the Governor His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, CON on behalf of the Board, and the Community of Rivers State students, very deeply for providing the money for payment of the Bursary and Scholarship to students of Rivers State origin, despite the monetary and economic hardship faced the State as a result of the shortfall in allocation to the State, couple also with the very many projects by the State Government. And added that, non-indigene students should keep off from the payment of the Rivers State Bursary, because refusal will attract penalty by the RSSB .
Also the Chairman, Bursary Committee, Hon. Chuku Cromwell and Secretary, Bursary Committee, Barr. Ibiene Cotton Amachree, stated that, the Time-Table for the School- Students Continuous Re-verification for Bursary payment includes: Rivers State University of Science And Technology (RSUST), 12th Nov. -14th Nov. 2014, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), 17th Nov-19th Nov.2014, Ignatius Ajuru University College Of Education (COE), 20th , 21st &24th Nov. 2014. Rivers Sate College Of Arts And Science (RIVCAS) Port Harcourt, 25th Nov. -27th Nov. 2014. College of Health Technology (COHTECH), 28th Nov., 1st & 2nd Dec. 2014, Rivers State Polytechnic (RIVPOLY), 3rd – 5th Dec. 2014, Federal College Of Education (Technical) Omuku (FCE TECH), 8th Dec.-10th Dec. 2014, and Madonna University, 11th Dec. -12th Dec. 2014. The time for all is 9:00am and the take-off point is Point Block State Secretariat Port Harcourt. ###
