Delga Constituency: Ipalibo Sogules Adopted

IPALIBOMr. Ipalibo Sogules has remained head and shoulders above all other aspirants jostling for the PDP ticket for the Rivers State House of Assembly Degema Constituency in ‘Elections 2015’This is the position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)Caucus of Bakana, the largest single Community in DegemaLGA.

In a communiqué released at the end of a one-day meeting last weekend and signed by the Media Relations Officer, Mr. Jene Sylver, the Caucus considered several criteria in arriving at this conclusion, including-Education, Working Experience, Discipline, Entrepreneurial capability, accessibility, civility, communal acceptability, amenability to the rule of law and order, respect to traditional institutions, fair play, promotion of peace, mutual respect and cordiality in inter-communal relations, etc.

According to the communiqué, “Mr. Ipalibo Sogules is a properly bred humble young man with impeccable educational credentials, a renowned ex-banker and investment manager of two decades with unblemished service record, now and for close to one decade, a successful entrepreneur and employer of labour. His upbringing and humble background has instilled high moral standards in him and he has utmost respect and regards for people irrespective of any differences in age of persuasions.

“Mr. Ipalibo Sogules maintains an enviable accessibility regime and has a high proclivity for doing good. His family roots spread across the LGA: Bakana, Ke, Obuama, Bukuma, Old Bakana and Tombia and beyond. He is a lover of dialogue, democracy and the rule of Law and has been promoting the growth of grassroots democracy since 1999.

“Mr. Ipalibo Sogules has been mentoring youths across the LGA on the need for civility and hard work in society and he enjoys the confidence of the party leadership and overwhelming grassroots support across the LGA.

“What more should we ask in a candidate?” the communiqué enthused.

Further, according to Mr. Jene Sylver “The Degema Constituency was last represented by the Late Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry. His fine credentials, education, civility and the respect and acceptance he enjoyed in the party leadership saw him climb up even to head the legislative arm of government. Degema has only one constituency, we thus cannot afford to send any person of any less pedigree now to that body”. The statement added.

Continuing, the communiqué stated “we also considered thoroughly and dispassionately, the allocation and occupancy of elective and appointive political positions amongst the 3 blocks of Bakana, Tombia and the District within the LGA since

1999.

“We note that whereas Bakana, as at date has had 2 tenures respectively of the Degema Council Chairmanship and the Senate from 1999 – 2007, Tombia Community occupies and for the second tenure since 2007, both in the Degema Council Chairmanship and the House of Reps position; while the District has had the House of Assembly position for the 4th tenure, up to the unfortunate demise in 2013 of the Late Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry.

“For Commissioners and SAs whereas Bakana has had 2 slots during the same period 1999 till date, Tombia has enjoyed 4 slots with 1 currently serving, and the District has had 5 slots with 2 currently serving.

“For Local Government Council Caretaker Committee Chairmanship, Bakana has had none till date whereas Tombia has enjoyed it 5 times and the District once”.

According to Mr. Jene Sylver “The above brief statistics speaks volumes of the disposition of the leadership of the PDP in the LGA during the period, towards Bakana despite the fact of Bakana’s premier position as the single largest Community in the LGA in terms of number of Wards, population and voters strength.

“It is thus, our considered position now that it is only fair and appropriate for the House of Assembly Seat of the LGA to go to Bakana which has no current appointive or elective political office as compared to Tombia which has a serving Commissioner, a council chairman and a House of Reps member; or the District which has a serving Commissioner and a serving SA”.

Further, the communiqué stating, “And in view of all of the above considerations, the PDP Bakana Caucus hereby endorses today Mr. Ipailbo Sogules as the most qualified and most suitable material amongst the lot for the PDP ticket for the House of Assembly Seat for Degema LGA in ‘Elections 2015“And we hereby call on all compatriots of the PDP across Degema LGA and indeed members of the general public within the LGA to support him for this election”;

“We assure the leadership of the PDP in Rivers State that Bakana and indeed the entire Degema LGA has the where withal to deliver come Election 2015”;

The PDP Bakana Caucus is a forum of the top echelon of the leadership of the PDP in the 6-Ward community and is currently led by Chief (Hon) Alfred C. C. Braide. The last meeting had more than 50 PDP bigwigs in attendance amongst whom were Prof. Victor Omuaru, Sir Tom Sogules, Chief (Hon) Ipalibo Braide, Chief Telema Duke, Chief Alfred C. C. Braide, Engr.
