The South-South Elders Forum has joined the list of high profile political groups that are backing the gubernatorial candidacy of Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd) in the forthcoming Rivers State governorship election.
Addressing supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Rivers Renaissance Campaign Office of Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd), Dr Innocent Eku noted that his presence at Anyanya’s campaign office was “symbolic” and “highly significant”.
“My presence here is symbolic. I am here to say to Rivers people that Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd) is the man. Anyanya is the man Rivers people should follow”, he said.
Dr Eku who is a veteran politician and chieftain of the PDP in Rivers State stated that the elders of the eminent group had done a “due diligence” and reached a unanimous decision to endorse Anyanya. He said he had been personally involved in the analysis of the various governorship aspirants among whom eleven were his friends but that Anyanya is head and shoulders the best of them all. He went further to announce that he has officially issued directives to the various bodies and organizations he leads for them to begin mobilizing support for Major Anyanya in the forthcoming election of delegates and in subsequent elections in Rivers State.
Dr Innocent Eku noted that it was imperative for Rivers State to move forward and for it to do so, a new kind of leadership is required he added that the desired leadership must be imbued with a sense of service and dedication to the common good and that Anyanya’s record of pubic service shows that he fits the bill perfectly. Moreover, he pointed out that the endorsement of Anyanya by the South-South Elders Forum was in line with the group’s values on equity and justice and that the retired military intelligence officer represents the face of that cause not only morally but also as a political imperative.
“We can’t run away from this reality that equity and justice are issues in this election with reference to the political dichotomy in Rivers State. So logically, we want to see a reflection of this consciousness in the 2015 governorship election and Major Lancelot Anyanya is our choice”, he said. ###
