Kingship Tussle: Bakana Youths Spit Fire

The Odum Royal Youths of Bakana community in the Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State have threatened fire and brimstone if some persons in the area refuse to obey the traditional authority under the leadership of the Amanyanabo of Bakana, HRH O.O Odum VIII.

The Odum Royal Youths who spoke through their leader, Sosepiriba Ferguson in a press briefing held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said that they are not comfortable with the manner and the way in which some unscrupulous elements are parading themselves as the Amanyanabo of Bakana.

According to the youths there is only one Amanyanabo in person of HRH O.O. Odum VIII that exists, and also the authentic occupant of the prestigious and ancient Odum kingship stool.

The Odum Youths advised all destractors to leave the Bakana monarch alone to avoid all unnecessary tension in the community.

“We don’t want any crisis in the community. Festive period is fast approaching. As far as we are concerned, we don’t want anything that will affect our brothers and sisters during the December festive period”, the youth said.

Meanwhile, the police in the state have told the people of Bakana to respect the court judgment in suit No. PHC/193/84 that enthroned HRH O.O Odum VIII as the Amanyanabo of Bakana.

The police warned the Chiefs from the opposition to stop parading themselves as Monarchs, adding that they should maintain the status quo so that peace will continue to reign in the Bakana community.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the meeting with the police, the Amanyanabo of Bakana, HRH O.O. Odum VIII advised the people of the area to always tread the path of peace and dialogue, saying that no community would develop in the atmosphere of rancour and acrimony. The Bakana monarch called on all the sons and daughters of the area to join hands with him to develop the community.

“There is no point fighting ourselves. As long as I am alive I remain the Amanyanabo of Bakana. As a father I want to work with everyone, so that we can develop our community”, HRH O.O. Odum VIII concluded. ###
