There is cold war in the Degema Local Government Council between the council boss, Hon. Daddy Ibigoni Pokima and some principal officers of the council namely: The Head of Local Government Administration and Head of Personnel Management (HPM) as the council chairman proposes to secure afresh loan. The HLGA, HPM, Directors and some principal officers of the council staged a protest, saying that the council chairman has just barely one month to vacate office and therefore it becomes improper to obtain any fresh loan.
But the chairman insists that he must secure the loan to settle contractors, adding that government or local government administration is a continuous process. However, according to independent sources if Hon. Pokima is permitted to obtain the said loan, it would have negative impact on the incoming administration.
Reliable sources hinted this weekly that the loan the council chairman is seeking to secure is close to N2bn.
Due to the chairman’s adamant nature to secure the loan, the matter was reported to relevant authorities which prompted the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Hon. Nnamdi Wokekoro to intervene and called the council chairman to order.
Wokekoro advised Hon. Pokima not to do anything that would put the council into financial bondage after his tenure in office. ###
