Peaceful Elections in 2015

The year 2015 is fast approaching. It is the year that will open another important chapter in the political history of Nigeria. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already released its time-table for the next year general election.

Many politicians have faulted the election time-table. Whatever way there must be general elections in Nigeria next year. Election no doubt is the only constitutional way in any democratic setting to change bad government or administration in a country. Election does not involve violence, but peaceful means of electing leaders.

Though sometime due to electoral rigging and frauds, elections are characterized with violence, which severally claimed lives and properties.

It would be recalled that in 2007, so many Nigerians, including youth corpers lost their lives during the elections, especially in the northen part of the country.

We think that fifty-four (54) years after the Nigeria’s political autonomy electoral malpractices should be reduced to the barest minimum. We condemn the attitude of winners take all exhibiting by politicians.

In the past few weeks politicians have started uttering unnecessary security threats. These threats are not healthy for the political development of the country. Every Contestants to any election position in 2015 general election should imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship. As far as we are concerned, in politics there is no victor, no vanquish. The ideal manifesto of every political party is to ensure speedy development of the country.

First and foremost let us use this time to plea with the INEC to provide level playing ground for all the political parties to contest the forthcoming elections. This is the only way to ensure a peaceful election in the country come 2015. ###
