Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has allegedly abandoned the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority, (TIMARIV) on the cross road by not implementing the requests and statutory provisions of the law establishing the Authority.
TIMARIV has on Wednesday led a protest, blocking Government House gate demanding for the Authority’s integration in the State Ministry of Transport.
The governor, The Newswriter gathered expressed being in a confused state over the demands of the Authority relying on his initial unofficial discussion with the over stayed Acting Comptroller General of the Authority, Mr. Eke Confidence.
The governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Transport, George Tolofari also noted with dismay the impasses in the authority and promised governor’s positive attention to the Authority’s requests.
Unexpectedly, the Commissioner’s pledged has turned negative against the Authority placing it on the cross road thereby tends to increase the rate of unemployment in the state as staff of the Authority are seriously, blocking gates of some multinationals seeking for employment expressing doubt over the continuous engagement of staff after October.
This was predicated on the intelligence report that the Governor has secretly expressed his readiness to leave the Authority where it is without integration into the Transport Ministry.
It is on record that the Transport Ministry had already conducted screening and auditing of staff of the Authority with the view of integration.
Meanwhile, there are palpable fears that TIMARIV may go on extinction before the end of Governor Amaechi’s tenure in May 29, 2015.
However, the Authority through its labour Union is preparing to drag the Governor to the Industrial Court to decide its status and operations. ###
