The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the Taabaa attack in Khana Local Council of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmed Mohamed in a statement, gave the names of the suspected assailants as FridayDournubari (male) and Kianaagbo Rose (Female).
He said the hoodlums were arrested at Lorre community following a tip-off by a good Samaritan.
The police spokesman noted that the traditional ruler, King KabariNule, has identified the duo as among the assailants who attacked his Palace.
It would be recalled that gun-wielding assailants had stormed the community, shooting sporadically as they proceeded to the Palace of Nule, riddling the building and his car with bullets. The incident left one person dead.
The statement read in parts: “Sequel to this, Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of two of the suspected assailants”.
“ Chief M. S. K. Nule, the traditional ruler of Taabaa, identified the duo as among the assailants who attacked his Palace. All efforts are put in place to the arrest other fleeing suspects”.
Contacted, the traditional ruler confirmed the incident but urged the police to ensure that the suspects were brought to book.
He said: “I want the police to use the arrested suspects to uncover the remaining hoodlums and the police should please not play politics with this sensitive matter”
“I was attacked because I refused to play politics with issues and until everybody distinguishes himself from compromising with issues, our society will continue to dwindle”
He continued: “If I was to give verdict on the suspects, I will not waste time to sentence them to death so that they would serve as deterrent to others. But if they are granted bail and released, it will encourage evil acts in our society. Police should prove its worth in this case, we are watching”.
