Ebola Virus: Two Schools Closed Down In Bonny

With the recent out break of the deadly Ebola Virus disease in the country, on Monday, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Bonny unit organized a one day workshop on Ebola Virus in the area.

In his address, the State President, Chief (Hon) Victor A. Green who was represented by Bonny unit chairman, Rev. Cyril Pollyn, said that the essence of the workshop is to enlighten all private school teachers in Bonny, so as to educate the children on the way out.

Pollyn noted that the need is sequel to Federal Government’s order on control of Ebola virus, saying that the workshop will go a long way of training the classroom teachers on how to handle school children.

The unit chairman charged all private schools in the area to make meaningful of the workshop in interest of NAPPS He thanked government for quick intervention of the deadly Ebola virus remedy.

He as well called on parents to always checkmate their children at home on required application on Ebola free, while he assured that teacher will do the best in their various classes in Bonny Local Government Area.

In his speech, the Zonal Director of Education, Bonny, Mr. Sunny Jumbo who was represented by Mr. Samuel Jumbo lauded National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Bonny Local Government area for their steadfast to organize the Ebola free workshop in the area.

Jumbo charged participants to make useful of the workshop so as to make Bonny free from Ebola virus, saying that teachers are the bedrock of children outside their homes.

He noted that Rivers State Ministry of Education will do her best in other Ebola virus control in the area.

The Zonal Director of Education in Bonny Local Government Area thanked all private schools who adhered to the Ministry of Education date of resumption, while assuring them of his Cooperations. He as well announced that about two schools in the area operating from Finima area have been ordered for immediate closedown for their refusal to comply with the state government instructions, the close down schools are CPM Int’l School, Finima and Grace Honzon Int’l School, Finima.

Lectures were delivered on easy control of Ebola virus by a team of Subject Masters Specialist (SMS) from NLNG, Bonny.

In his lecture, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of NLNG, Bonny, Dr. Gbamboshe noted the importance of the Ebola free workshop in the area need not to over emphasis.

He lauded NAPPS for holding such useful and important workshop. Dr. Gbamboshe warned against careless touching of vomiting, saliva, urine and sweats or waste of persons without proper test, stating that the preventing measures are screening of body temperature with non contact thermo scan.

The Doctor cautioned against picking and eating fruits and snacks already fooling on the ground, Dr. Gbamoshe charged teachers to always teach children on how to wash their hands properly and urged them to always put wash hand basin water, napkins and soup in their respective schools.

He emphasis on the need to take safety seriously on Ebola virus diseases.

In his view, Se-Alabo Sodienye R. Jackmay noted that Nigeria has been declared Ebola free nation, asking on the next step to follow.

Dr. Gbamboshe said that there is need for us to continue the workshop for preventive measures pointing out those other neighboring countries who suffer over 500 Ebola cases daily.

He appealed to school heads to provide eprons and hand gloves to each of the classes in their respective schools so as to ease teachers in the case of pupils who may vomit, urine and stolling while in the class.

In her lecture, Mrs. Emilia Hart of the NLNG School charged teachers for proper hygienic measure in their respective schools so as to make Ebola and other related sicknesses free in Bonny Local Government Area.

Those include in the NLNG team are the Chief Matron, Matron Orupabo who taught how to handle thermo scan and Miss Blessing P.

In another development, Inspection Committee was inaugurated for ease sensitization of Ebola free operation in all private schools in Bonny LGA.

They are:- Victoria Christopher – Chairperson, Gift C. Banigo — Secretary, Ibitondo Brown- member, Pst. (Mrs.) U. Benstone, Emmanuel Hart, Mr. Legacy.

In his vote of thanks, the unit chairman Rev. Cyril A. Pollyn commended NLNG resource persons for their famous contributions in Ebola free in Bonny LGA.

Pollyn also acknowledged the presence of proprietors and representatives in the said workshop. He shows his appreciation to Federal and State Governments in trapping Ebola free in Rivers State. NAPPS Chairman used the opportunity, sent a goodwill message on behalf of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Bonny Island, and a goodwill massage to President Goodluck Jonathan and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amechi (Rivers State Governor) on Nigeria 54 Independence Anniversary.

In the same vein he as well sympathized with the bereaved family of the victims of boat mishap in Ibanise boat in Bonny Rivers recently.

Pollyn appealed to BMTA and other boat operators and agencies to be careful while sailing on Bonny sea for interest of commuters. ###
