Amaechi Commissions Tonye Harry’s Stadium October 3

TONYEHistory will be made on the 3rd of October when Amaechi will be commissioning Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry’s stadium built by the chairman of Degema Local Government Council, Hon. Daddy Pokima.

Speaking on radio sports programme, Hon. Pokima said the council decided to immortalized Hon. Tonye Harry with the naming of the stadium after him because of what he had done or contributed to sports growth particularly lawn tennis and had supported many sports young talents in Rivers State and beyond.

Activities lined up for the commissioning ceremony are; football match between Port Harcourt and Degema side. A wrestling match will also be showcased while Hon. Tonye Harry’s Tennis Academy will open the lawn tennis court with a match.

He also said that all facilities of the stadium will be put to use that very day.

He pointed out that plans are on to contract or go into partnership with sports marketing company or firm to maintain the stadium immediately after commissioning.

“We expect that the marketing company or firm is expected to be conducting one or two sports activities in all the facilities in the stadium atleast once or twice a year in that way, the stadium will be kept busy all through. ###
