As Electioneering Campaigns Kick-off
Ahead of next year’s general election, almost all the registered and recognized political parties have released their guidelines in conduct of their primaries. From the guidelines released so far parties’ primaries for both state and national Assembly, governorship and presidential elections would be concluded on or before second week of December, 2014.
Aspirants aspiring for various elective positions have commenced campaigns and consultations within their constituencies. This is a period when aspirants, will tell electorate what they intend to do with if they secured the mandate of the people. In an ideal situation campaigns should be based on issues that are bordering on human development and not casting aspersion on fellow contestants.
We have seen a situation where politicians during campaign would publicly abused their opponents calling them all sort of names that do not dignify human status. That is an irresponsible way of seeking for people’s votes.
Politics is a game, and therefore to avoid unnecessary tension and violence, it must be played according to the rule. Our democracy is advancing, hence politicians who are involved in the game should play it maturely. Politicians who do not get the people’s mandate should take it with good faith and exhibit a spirit of sportsmanship. This is one basic way for a nation to grow democratically.
The era of fighting elective positions is over, that is an uncivilized way of acquiring political powers.
The time has come for politicians to comply with all guidelines released by the relevant electoral body so that the country should experience a smooth conduct of elections in 2015. ###
