Reason behind the October 2nd untitled invitation by Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, calling on citizens of the State to converge at the Greater Port Harcourt Stadium has been uncovered, as he (Amaechi) Plans what political pundits posit as belated declaration either for or against the opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dependable source within the Rivers State Government House who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the governor would formally declare for the APC on Thursday 2nd October, 2014, in affirmation with his earlier promise that he would gather Rivers people at the new stadium to declare his position.
It would be recalled that Governor Amaechi boasted that if he would declare for the APC, the former head of State Alhaji Mohamadu Buhari, Alhaji Bola Tinubu and others would grace the occasion but if his declaration is for PDP, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will be in attendance.
Recently, The Newswriter Political Desk was, however briefed of the Governor’s dilemma either to return to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or to pitch his tent with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), occasion on his alleged betrayal and disappointment in the APC.
The Newswriter further gathered that in several occasions, Governor Amaechi has realized how he was misguided and deceived by men of the APC, saying he (Amaechi) now recalls the scriptural inference as recorded in Jeremiah chapter 17 verse 9, “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?”.
But Political Pundits are of the view that such declaration as proposed by governor Amaechi is rather belated since he is actively involved in the APC programmes as well as professes APC in all his dealings, saying that such declaration amounts to deceit, and waste of State resources.
According to The Newswriters’ source the governor’s intension is to gather the People at the stadium for onward presentation to the President as his followers and supporters aimed at luring Mr. President to consider and facilitates his return to the PDP.
However, One Mr. Godslove Godslove Amehule, a strong supporter of the PDP has blamed the State insubordination to the Federal Government against schools resumption on September 22nd and the sudden declaration that Rivers State is Ebola free State on the ill plans to host such rally, advising all PDP stalwarts to be vigilant of governor Amaechi’s antics, adding that such conceived plans cannot attract sympathy “to a drawning man”.
Amehule, an indigene of Ikwerre Local Government avers that PDP must take over Rivers State, describing Amaechi’s supporters as People on mission and would vacate their scenes at the close of assignment.
However, if the information at The Newswriters disposal is anything to go by, then the position of governor Amaechi’s friend and the Prince of Kalabari, Prince Tonye Princewill that Amaechi’s defection to APC was a big mistake should be taken very seriously, especially now that rumours of his proposed return is everywhere.
