“Amaechi Wants To Provoke My Person” – Rivers CP

DAN BATURECommissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr. Dan Bature, said the recent comment of Governor Chibuike Amaechi, that he was deployed to Rivers on the orders of the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, to install the governor’s successor from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, was designed to provoke him.

Amaechi had in a statement signed by his Chief Press secretary, David Iyofor on Sunday, September 14, alleged that the new Police Boss may have been de-ployed to the state to act out a script there.

The statement also said that Bature’s predecessor, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, was promoted to pave the way for him to actualize the agenda of his Abuja-based pay masters.

Bature said: “I have deliberately decided not to respond to Governor Amaechi’s insinuation that I was posted to Rivers State Police Command on the behest of Mrs. Patience Jonathan to enthrone Governor Amaechi’s successor at the 2015 gubernatorial election at all cost.

“I don’t think there is any reason for me to respond to comments made by Governor Amaechi as regards my posting. For the records, I came to Rivers State on a normal mandate.

“I came to Rivers State on a clear mandate. I came because there was a vacuum created by the promotion of my predecessor, Assistant Inspector General, AIG, TundeOgunsaKin.

“Comments about my posting to Rivers State are highly embarrassing be-cause police posting should not be matters that should be discussed on the pages of newspapers. My posting is essentially a national duty.

“Comments about my posting to Rivers State are very embarrassing. Com-ments about my posting are misleading and irrelevant,” the Police boss said.

Continuing, Bature said: “Whatever you have read about my posting is de-signed to provoke me. Such comments are merely ranting that should be ignored. I was deployed to Rivers State to provide an enduring atmosphere of safety and se-curity to Rivers people.

Speculation about my posting to Rivers State is misleading, erroneous and irrelevant,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State police command dis-closed that it has rescued 20 kidnapped victims abducted in different parts of the state.

It also paraded 51 sus-pects involved in various crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, car snatching and cultism.

The Police Commis-sioner, who disclosed this to reporters in Port Harcourt, said the kidnapped victims were rescued by his men through intelligence gathering and vital information volunteered by members of the public while the suspects were arrested between August to September 2014 from different part of the state.
