The Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria, Rivers State Council has issued a 14day ultimatum to the 23 Local Government Chairmen to implement the consolidated salary structure, meant for primary health workers in the state or its members will proceed on indefinite strike.
Comrade (Mrs.) Beatrice Itubo disclosed this to news men shortly after an executive emergency meeting of the union, said that the union would not only go on strike, but would embark on a street protest so as to make their grievances known to the world.
According to her, “We as a union are really prepared to make sure the salary structure made by the law was strictly followed by all the Local Government Areas,’ also stressed that, “We heard that Port Harcourt Local Government area has even stopped paying primary health workers, this they did without even calling us for dialogue. I think this is very wrong and we will fight it to the last.
Speaking on the use of security men in most private organizations to screen persons for Ebola, she said that, “Before any organization can do that, there must be a adequate training for them. What they are checking is just to know the temperature of individual and when it is above normal then such a person would be suspected Ebola victim, I do not see anything wrong in it. They are just volunteers. ###
