Welcome Rivers New CP Dan Bature

The new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Mr. Dan Bature resumed office last week.

He took over from AIG Tunde Ogunsakin. Speaking to newsmen at the Police Officers’ Mess, Old GRA in Port Harcourt, the new CP, after officially being presented to the people of the state by the outgone Police Commissioner, Mr. Ogunsakin, promised to tackle restiveness and violence in the state.

The new CP is a committed Police Officer and known for his doggedness in crime prevention.

As we congratulate Mr. Bature as the new Commissioner of Police, Rivers Police Command and also welcome him to the state, there is need for him to keep abreast of the peculiar nature of Rivers State as regards to crime, violence, killings, kidnapping and other social vices.

The state is known for it’s notorious activities, especially in the political circle, as different political parties constantly trading words with one another. Rivers has a sad history of political violence. For instance last month there was a bloody clash between the supporters of All Progressives Congress, (APC) and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Rumupirikon in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

During the crisis several persons sustained serious injuries and properties estimated at millions of naira were destroyed.

As a public servant you are expected to be unbiased in-charge of your statutory responsibilities. You need to provide level playing ground especially for politicians who are aspiring for elective positions in 2015.

It is our prayer that you bring your wealth of professional experience to bear to combat crime in the state, so as to avoid the breakdown of law and order in Rivers State. ###
