RIVLEAF Kicks-Off Roundtable On Good Governance

The Rivers Leadership Advancement Foundation (RIVLEAF) has commenced her leadership roundtable in the state.

The National President of the group, Hon. Alex Weli made this known at it first RIVLEAF, leadership roundtable with the theme “sensitization on Good Governance in Rivers State” over the weekend in Port Harcourt.

Hon. Weli stated that RIVLEAF is the main structure of the state as a product of a long painstaking articulations, sensitizing the people in all the nooks and crannies of the state on good governance.

He said the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi as the leader of RIVLEAF tasked members to be steadfast and courageous as better times are coming, saying that he was happy for the second phase of the programme.

Hon. Alex Weli who is also an S.A to the Governor said the future of the state belong to those that have made sacrifice(s) for unity, Good Governance and the stability of Rivers State.

“RIVLEAF is a mass movement and today there is no going back on supporting the governor till may 2015” he said.

Explaining further, Hon. Weli said one of the reasons for the roundtable was to cross check the strength of members and those that still believe in the struggle because those sitting on the fence have taken the voyage of failure.

The National president used the event to introduce “RIVLEAF SEARCH” a website that will enable over one million youths to vote those who are aspiring to govern Rivers State across party line without bias.

According to Hon. Weli the vote will commence in 3 weeks time and the result will be made known to the Rivers people. Saying an independent body the KPMG will manage and collate the result emanating from those that will vote on line.

“Time has come when we will begin to look for quality and God fearing candidate” he stated.

The Ikwerre born politician said the decision to decide who will govern Rivers State is also in the hands of RIVLEAF and those who share the views on good governance to move the state forward saying Governor Amaechi has executed quality projects that anybody that will take over from him must consolidate on his good works.

He commended the governor in tackling the case of “Ebola virus” in the state.

On the issue of empowering local contractors in the state, Hon. Weli said dubious contractors abused the process when they embarked on roads without good quality.

“We are justified when we adopted the governor as our role model” Weli said.

Commending on the 2015 elections, Hon. Weli said Rivers youths will not be turned into thugs and would not be encouraged to burn houses, killing and violence, saying those who want to win election through violence will be disappointed and they will fail.

Earlier, the General Secretary, Barr. Forgiven Amakiri said the roundtable was for foundation chairman of local government, LGA coordinators, women leaders and members of leadership council.

RIVLEAF in a statement made available stated that Rivers people should choose a God fearing man, a detribalize person, and should also choose only the person that will consolidate on the work of the incumbency and a governor that will serve the state. Others who graced the occasion are Hon. Irene Inimigba, Member House of Assembly, Rivers State, Dr. Timmy Chukwu, Hon. Iboroma Harry and Hon. Okey Okorie. ###
