The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it’s now crystal clear why Gov Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has bluntly refused to conduct Local Government Council elections in the State in contravention to the constitutional and electoral laws of the land.
Alleging a grand plot to incite crisis in the various councils so that he will continue to administer them in like manner he runs the State House of Assembly like a personal estate and have advantage in the 2015 general elections, the PDP through a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the State chairman, Jerry Needam said Gov Amaechi has again lined up persons with doubtful characters and well known for promoting and fishing in troubled waters as his new Caretaker Committee Members for the 23 Local Government Areas of the State which is yet to be made public.
In his bid to foist the All Progressives Congress, APC on the councils, the PDP said Gov Amaechi has stubbornly continued to deny the Rivers people their inalienable right to choose their own representatives and leaders irrespective of their political leanings.
Even though his strategy has boomeranged in favour of other political parties especially its party, the PDP said as a people oriented Party it still insists the right thing should be done in the spirit of social justice, equity and fairplay.
The PDP also observes with disdain Gov Amaechi’s maverick attitude to even genuine Rivers people who have continued to be treated with careless abandon by the APC leadership in the State in preference for evil persons only on account of their ability to destabilize and loot the councils so long they clear the way for the APC to win the 2015 general elections in their various councils.
“We are not even sure Gov Amaechi remembers he has an electoral body, the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) whose staff salaries and allowances amid boredom and job dissatisfaction have continued to run at the expense of the Rivers people and not the APC.
Notwithstanding, all this prank will soon come to a head, and by 2015, he, Amaechi would have discovered he has succeeded in creating and winning more enemies to himself and the APC in favour of the PDP, the only hope for the Rivers people”, the PDP declared.
The PDP therefore enjoined the people to be patient but also alert to their will at all times and refuse any belated inducement as Amaechi imposes another group of opportunists on them as CTC chairmen and members.
