IYC Eastern Zone Elects New Exco In Bonny

Ijaw Youth Council (IYC ) Eastern in accordance with constitution of the council elected their new executive members that will run the affairs of council in the next three years.

The Eastern Zonal election was held on Sunday 3lst August 2014 at Youth Development Centre, Finima in Bonny Local Government Area. The election which was conducted by Zeco chairman, Mr. Kateukpo, N. Atagwung AKA Kata was peaceful, credible and transparent.

According to him, the only way to elect an authentic IYC exco is through the electorate process, otherwise other process of appointment is not acceptable in 1YC, therefore having satisfied these processes according to the constitution of the 1YC” and the power conferred on him as the electoral chairman, he announced the following members as the duly elected – executive members of lYC, Eastern Zone. – Iyerifama Godswill Jaja, Chaiman; Ekang John Cyril, Vice Chairman; Robert Dominic Amah — General Secretary; Worika John Paul Assistant Secretary; Joel Trust Johnson — Financial Secretary; Raphael Obazi Information Officer, Okilo A.T Olalo — Treasurer; Esuku Belief Nicholas MOB Officer, NGO Amachree —Woman leader, Patience Green, Students Representative.

Speaking with this publication the newly elected chairman thanked God for the opportunity serve IYC Eastern Zone, as well as appreciating delegates that came from different clans of the zone to elect them for a new vision for IYC Eastern Zone in the next three years.

He however, stated that IYC Eastern Zone under his watch will not relent in sensitizing the youths working assiduously for the liberation and emancipation of Niger Delta region to Greater height.

He dismissed that there is no other executive body of IYC Eastern Zone, apart from the one under his leadership.

According to the newly elected chairman of IYC Eastern Zone, Mr. Godswill Jaja, the IYC executive members emerged through election and not by appointment as they were duly elected according to IYC constitution. As a result, they are the authentic members of IYC Eastern Zone exco.

He used the medium and called on every Ijaw youth to come together for unity and betterment of Ijaw nation.

Also speaking, Hon. Tamunomiebi Jeremiah one of the delegates from Okrika clan commended the Zeco for conducting the most fairest and credible election in the history of the IYC ‘Eastern Zone, however, recommended the electoral body for future elections because of their good performance.

He also advised the newly elected members of the executive to work in unity to carry everybody including the aggrieved members along for growth and development of the Ijaw youths and the interest of the Ijaw nation. Also the chairman of IYC Eastern Zone in Unyeada Clan, Mr. Israel Fubara the outcome of the election, he stated that the zonal electoral commission has done extremely well in making the election peaceful, credible and transparent, according to him, it is in line with international best practice.

Finally, an elder of Ijaw National Congress, Ambassador Sokari Maxwell observed the election and commended that it was peaceful and credible. He however, advised the newly Exco to be focused and work in unity to overcome the future challenges, urging them to include every Ijaw youth in the scheme of things as to avoid disunity. ###
