The progressive Rivers State students for Good Governance (PRISGOG) has endorsed Barr. Dumo Lulu Briggs to contest for the position of the Rivers State Governor in the 2015 general elections.
The group which comprises students from universities, colleges and polytechnics made the remark over the weekend in Port Harcourt.
In a formal endorsement programme organized by the various students of higher institutions in the state, the coordinator of PRISGOG, Comrade Banuna Gift Monale explained that progressive Rivers State Students for Good Governance (PRISGOG) is a body of conscious minded students in Rivers State and outside the state that concerned with canvassing for the actualization of a better government that will see to the welfare of students and enhance true democratic dividends in Rivers State.
Comrade Monale stated that they took the decision based on some outstanding qualities of Lulu Briggs as it effects students in the state such as, scholarship for Rivers and non Rivers students at home and abroad, free medical service and donation for the less privileged, sponsorship to positive ideas and goal oriented programs among others.
The group coordinator further maintained that the choice of Lulu Briggs is based on his attitude as a God fearing man with honour and integrity and above all he is a bridge between the rich and the poor and a friend of students.
She disclosed that the students believe that if Lulu-Briggs scales through the huddles of party primaries and finally become the governor of Rivers State come 2015, they expect him to do more in the area of education, especially free education at primary and secondary levels, free WAEC and FSLC examination registrations, 50% charges reduction for state universities, polytechnics, School of Nursing, etc, 100% bursary incentive and periodic interactive session with the students. Addressing journalists shortly after the event, Comrade Monale stated that Barr. Lulu-Briggs intervention on cancer disease and campaign on “Ebola Virus” is an indication of his love towards the people of the state.
Ask if the president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan asks Lulu-Briggs to step down, what will the students do? She said the president will not do that because Lulu-Briggs is the only light of the hope of the students for now. She explained that Chief Lulu Briggs is a detribalize person who has helped many Ogoni people and he has the heart of the Ogonis in him and Ogonis are proud of him.
Also speaking, Mr. Nwankwo Daniel stated that their support for Lulu-Briggs is as a result of a wider consultation and investigation among other aspirants, hence their choice for the Kalabari Chief.
Contributing further, Comrade Igwela Chris Victor told journalists that they have seen much of the good things done by Chief Lulu Briggs and they are convinced that if given the position as the governor come 2015, he will perform creditably.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the certificate of endorsement to Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs. ###
