Rivers Renaissance Laments Underdevelopment In Rivers State

A social political organization known as the Rivers Renaissance has lamented the poor level of development in Rivers State.

Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the coordinator of the group, Barr. Soalabo West critically examined the development pattern of the state since it’s creation in May 27, 1967 to date. Barr. West observed that in the past, Rivers State was a tourist attraction and development haven, describing it then as “well planned, clean and green and was the undisputed jewel of not just the Niger Delta, but Nigeria”.

The Rivers Renaissance alleged that today the state is deteriorating on daily basis, adding that, “If there is no halt to this deterioration in Rivers State, we may soon find ourselves over the precipice.”

The group had earlier drummed support for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s second term in office. According to them the president has done so much especially in the areas of economic and infrastructural development in the country. The group further supported the existing zoning system in the state, noting that in 2015, it is the turn of the Riverine communities to produce the governor of Rivers State. ###
