Eastern IYC Supports Jonathan’s Second Term

The Ijaw Youth Congress, Eastern Zone has endorsed President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan re-election bid in 2015.

Rising from a one day blue print retreat organized by IYC Eastern zone in Port Harcourt, the chairman of the zone, Comrade Peter Timothy Igbifa while in a chat with journalists shortly after the retreat disclosed that the Ijaw Youth Congress will not compromise with the issue of 2015 general elections especially when it comes to the matter of President Goodluck Jonathan re-election bid, “we want him to continue and our gospel is let him ride on, we are also advocating for an Ijaw son to emerge as a Governor of Rivers State in 2015”.

Comrade Igbifa who noted that a leader without quality is useless hence he decided to come up with a blue print.

He also hinted that the zone will soon organize an economic summit stressing that the essence of the economic summit is to build a base where every member of the zone will be a stakeholder.

He charged the seven member blue print committee to be committed in their assignment, work in harmony and submit their report within 14 days.

Earlier in his speech the National Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress, Engr. Emmanuel Brimstone expressed the need to ensure discipline in the zone suggesting that a disciplinary committee be set up to discipline defaulters.

He also suggested fund raising among members to assist them when the need arises rather than depend on the chairmen and their executives.

Other members who spoke at the blue print retreat such as Warisenibo Prince MacPepple, Mr. Cooler Hart Kala Jene, Comr. Tamuno Tonye Tobi, Jeremiah Uba, Umaru Farouk among others noted that their reason for not moving forward was lack of unity and fairness to one another advising that they should be united.

They also advocated the building of a befitting secretariat for the zone, purchase of vehicles for each of the clans in the zone.

In his response the chairman of the Blue Print Committee, Comrade Tunde Anayekio while commending the chairman of the zone, Comrade Peter Timothy Igbifa for appointing him and his colleagues to serve in that capacity assured that he will work as a team with his members to justify the confidence response on them. He promised that their report will be ready in 14 days as mandated by the chairman of the zone. ###
