2015: 6 Kalabari Guber Aspirants Quit …MOSOP Collapses

The dream of a Kalabari Governor in 2015 has suffered a fresh set back as six (6) gubernatorial aspirants from the Kalabari extraction sunk their ambition to succeed Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in May 29, 2015.

The reason why they jettisoned their political aspirations to governing Rivers State next year is not made known to this weekly as at the time of filing in this report. However, knowledgeable sources told our political correspondent that the said Kalabari gubernatorial aspirants whose names will be made known to the public in our subsequent edition, said that they have seen the handwriting on the wall that they might not scale through the hurdles to actualize their governorship ambition.

One of the hurdles according to our source is the amount for the sales of the nomination/intent declaration forms which amount to Eleven million naira (N11m).

Another challenge facing the said governorship aspirants is that they are not in control of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP from the State to the Local Government levels.

However, the information reaching our political desk had it that a prominent Kalabari son, Chief A. K. Horsfall, Sekuro of Kalabari Kingdom last week summoned all the Kalabari aspirants to Lagos for a crucial meeting.

The major purpose of the said meeting was to screen and bring down the number of aspirants to three (3). From the three (3) aspirants selected, they would pick one among them before the party primaries. The information revealed that during the screening exercise, three (3) aspirants were picked among whom is Engr. Dagogo Jack. The adoption of Engr. Dagogo Jack and two other aspirants whose names will be revealed in our next edition caused uproar among the governorship aspirants from the Kalabari Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the political ambition of the Minister of State for Education, Chief Barr. Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike has torn the Ogoni ethnic nationality apart.

Last week, the Ogoni Youth Movement (OYM) organized a political rally at UBE Primary School field, Bori and endorsed Chief Wike as the next governor of Rivers State come 2015. Many Ogoni sons and daughters were presence at the event. They include: Hon. Dr. Fred Kpakol, Chief Monday Ngbor, Hon. Kenneth Kobani, Hon. Dum Deekor, Dr. Jacobson Nbinna, Hon. Olaka Nwogu and several others.

Speaking at the event, the President General of OYM, Comrade Sunny Bekawah reiterated the resolve of the youths never to make the mistakes of the older politicians by playing what he called, “Politics of self, inadequate consultations and negotiations”. Based on this, we said the youths of Ogoni land unanimously endorse President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for second term in office and called on Chief Wike to contest the governorship seat in 2015.

The Newswriter Newspaper authoritatively gathered that, the leadership of MOSOP has been divided, hence the organization cannot for the unity and oneness of the Ogonis as far as 2015 general election is concerned.

Meanwhile a socio- political group known as the Ogoni Social Democratic Network (OSDN) has blasted the leadership of The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) in entangling into unnecessary politics.###
