Omoku, Headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, last week was in joyful mood as the traditional Head of Ogba Kingdom, His Eminence, Chukwumela Nnam Obi II, Eze Oba of Ogbaland played host to a dynamic and amiable Rivers son, Major Lancelot Anyanya (Rtd), Chairman, Board of Governors of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) at his palace.
The royal father described his visit as timely, noting that his domain which was relegated to the background by past administration over bad leadership will overcome challenges and trials, as according to him, he sees new leaders who are committed to God.
Eze Oba disclosed that he will always recognize leaders that are close to God, stressing that Rivers State has lost its glory due to certain responsibilities by the leaders. He noted that the turbulent nature of the state calls for adequate emergency response to enable the inhabitants have a feel of development.
“While other states are advancing and achieving great prospects, Rivers State is lagging behind simply because of highhandedness and arrogancy by the leaders. If you know your history or your father, you will excel. We have charlatans who are clamouring to rule, but God will certainly give us a leader”, the royal father stressed.
He assured Anyanya of the support of Ogba people in his quest for the future, adding that whoever that must lead must love God, as well as praying that the Almighty God should use the NOSDRA Chairman as an instrument of development in the state.
Chairman of NOSDRA, Maj. Anyanya applauded the Omoku monarch and lauded his hospitality. He also commended his council of chiefs and other notable bodies that were in the palace to welcome his presence. He noted that leadership is a spiritual value that needs a sound and mature person.
The NOSDRA Chief specifically thanked the monarch for the relative peace at his domain and maintained that the incredible support the Oba in council and the entire Ogba people have given to the president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is overwhelming.
Recognizing the strategic and criticality of Omoku as one of the oil and gas bearing communities, Anyanya stated that the zeal and passion of NOSDRA to carry out its responsibilities is second to none.
He assured the Oba of a safe environment, noting that all spill cases will be treated with speed, as he appealed for a collaboration with the community for a free pollution environment.
The event witnessed presentation of gifts to Maj. Anyanya by His Eminence at the Palace, while numerous youth bodies, women and other groups were in there large numbers to identify with the NOSDRA Chairman at Omoku.
A middle aged man who hail from Elieta in ONELGA but will not want his name in print, described the NOSDRA Chairman as an intelligent Rivers man with unblemish records. He further stated that the ex-military gentleman is a figure par excellence and a candidate to beat if he steps forward. He pleaded with Maj. Anyanya to come on board and change the face of politics in the state, pointing out that Rivers people are ready to support his ambition.
