Obio/Akpor Residents Cry Out Over Power Outage

The residents of Mgbuoba, NTA and Location Road by Ada George have expressed worry over the continuous power failure in the area.

Our Energy Correspondent who visited the area said those residing around Mgbuoba, NTA and Location Road by Ada George, Port Harcourt are lamenting for the past seven months.

Some residents who spoke to our correspondent cannot ascertain the reason why Nigerian Electrical Distribution Company has refused to give them power for a long period of time.

They complained that despite the continuous failure of the company to provide power supply every month the company bring electric bill to them at odd hours.

“They bring bills to our houses at odd hours when nobody is at home to avoid embarrassment” the resident alleged.

The residents further stressed that because of lack of power they have continued to patronize water vendor on daily basis, a situation which can create danger to the people.

Investigations revealed that the public now spend a lot of money on dry-cleaning services which has drastically reduced their income.

The people said if the situation is not improve they will be forced to demonstrate to company’s office along NTA road, Port Harcourt which might not augur well with the electricity firm.

Complaining further some business men and women stated that the situation have caused them to lost money since they depend on frozen foods for survival.

They called on the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi to come to their aid by directing the Electricity Distribution Company to correct the anomalies.

One of the residents who pleaded for anonymity said the situation might be political meaning one of the political parties is using the power outage situation either to punish the people or they will use it for camping.

The truth remain that the people of the area have continued to live in darkness a situation that is not befitting of Port Harcourt especially now that the city is a world book capital. ###
