Fighting Cultism In Rivers State

In the past two (2) weeks cultists have slaughtered no fewer than thirty (30) persons in the different parts of the state. The reason for the recent killings is not known as many have attributed it to “fight for supremacy” by rival cult groups.
With the current resurgence of cultism in the state, the residents are now living in perpetual fears. Every part of the state appears to be insecured as dreaded cultists terrorizing the various communities.
The increasing rate of the cultism has reduced both commercial and social activities in the city of Port Harcourt and its environs. Rivers State is no longer safe.
Our worry is that despite the continuous patrol by the police, cultism still persists, killing innocent people and making the state ungovernable.
Besides patrol, the police have also failed to discharge their duties effectively as they formed the habit of extorting money from motorists and other commercial drivers.
The police should avoid compromising their statutory responsibilities and bring their professional trainings to bear by combating unnecessary killings in the state.
The police should be equipped with modern security facilities and beef up security in every nooks and crannies of the state to control the increase in cultism, violence, kidnapping and killings. ###
