The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted the purported N218m Automated Road Analyser by Gov Amaechi, calling it fraudulent and white lie.
The purchase of the Automated Road Analyser device by Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi reportedly for assessment of quality of road constructions by contractors according to the PDP is yet another means of siphoning State funds.
The Party in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman is also worried that the State Bureau of Public Procurement, an agency of government established to screen the eligibility and ascertain the claims of contract-bidders to ensure that contracts and government projects are not awarded to wrong or incompetent companies and individuals have suddenly become a purchasing agency for Gov. Chibuike Amaechi.
Alleging complicity between the Director General of the State Bureau of Public procurement, Franklyn Nlerum and Gov Amaechi, the PDP sees no reason for the purchase of the Automated Road Analyser let alone involving the Bureau in the purchase.
It’s even more suspicious and intriguing the PDP notes, that Gov Amaechi who is at the last lap of his tenure and has accordingly ordered his caretaker committee chairmen and commissioners not to embark on new projects would go ahead to spend a large chunk of the loans he has been borrowing to purchase an Automated Road Analyser.
This is very fraudulent and wasteful and should be investigated, the party remarks.
The party therefore wishes to invite the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, to beam their searchlight once more on Gov Amaechi’s activities and purported purchase of this Automated Road Analyser.
“It’s also very unfortunate that our people have become docile and seem helpless in the face of the magnitude of theft and misappropriation of State funds by Gov Amaechi, having grounded all monitoring agencies, the courts, the legislature etc to have a leeway to be doing as he likes.
Any alarm we raise is mistaken as political opposition but the truth remains that the malfeasance that has become the lot of Gov Amaechi administration is a fact and a deliberate ploy to inflict injury on our people to succumb to his whims and caprices”, the PDP notes.
Our people must rise up now and say No to this new slavery by one of their own that has just decided to be deviant”, the PDP declared.
