“Some traditional Rulers Are Corrupt” – Obalga CTC Boss

The Caretaker Committee, CTC Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Dr. Lawrence Chuku alleged that some traditional rulers in the state are corrupt.

The council chairman dropped the bombshell in an interview with newsmen shortly after a meeting with the paramount rulers and stakeholders of Obio/Akpor LGA at the council headquarters.

Dr. Chukwu stated that the crisis in some of the communities in the state is as a result of corruption and mismanagement of money that belong to the community. CTC Chairman said that some traditional rulers sometimes divert money that belong to their communities just because they are the Paramount heads.

He warned corruption at any level noting that unless such traditional ruler change that there will never be peace and development in such community.

The Caretaker Chairman told journalists that the meeting with the traditional rulers become imperative to protect life and properties in Obio/Akpor LGA.

On ways of maintaining security in the communities, the council boss said that the council will accept the suggestion of vigilante, but most be done with caution and clarity of purpose. He insisted that the council will work with Nigerian Police for the formation of the vigilante in the various communities.

He explained that the paramount rulers get 5% of whatever comes to the council as allocation, while assisting them especially those who have genuine complain.

Dr. Chukwu attributed division in some communities to those who have lost favour with government in power and are trying to divide the communities for their selfish purpose.

He blamed those parading as traditional ruler in Mgbesilalu community on greed and selfishness, saying nobody can create new community now in Obio/Akpor kingdom or Ikwerre land.

“God has finished his creation and our community is formed, what we need now is growth and development” he posited.

The Obalga Boss warned those formenting troubles in name of politics to shun such act and avoid confusion for better development.

Speaking during the meeting, the chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Obio/Akpor LGA Mr. Solomon tasked politicians to live in peaceful co-existence.

He said political party will always come and go, as recalling days of NPN and NPP, NRC and SDP and now PDP and APC but politics is for progress no matter the name of the party.

During the interactive session, some of the traditional rulers suggested the formation of vigilante groups. Some of them accused police of knowing some of the bad boys in the communities and will not like to work with the community leaders.

They warned politicians to play politics according to the rule of the game and should not engage in that will things cause crises during or after the elections.

Other called for frequent meeting with the different political parties to talk to their party faithful to avoid political frictions. ###
