“Seek Elective Positions, Not Presidency,” Anglican Faithful Charged

PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHANA clarion call has gone to all Anglican faithful in Rivers State especially in the Niger Delta Docese, Anglican Communion to vie for any of the elective positions in the state come 2015.

The Diocesan, Rt. Rev. Ralph Cornelius Ebirien (JP) made the call last Sunday in a Trinity Ordination Service held at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church Port Harcourt while addressing Christians on the need to peaceful society and elections in 2015.

The Bishop Ebirien who reiterated the Diocese’s commitment in supporting and praying for those vying for elections noted that members of the church should desire elective positions but admonished all to forget the desire for Presidential seat for now.

The leader of the church in the Diocese also delivered the goodwill message of the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, His Grace, the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh “that no one is worth dying for” and enjoined members of the Anglican fold to actively participate in politics, not of bitterness but as a process of enhancing governance.

Bishop Ebirien, while praying for a peaceful Rivers State, Nigeria and the release of the Chibok girls told the concregation to always remain in prayers for the nation as it is the only source to move the country forward.

The Bishop however, did not give reasons for declining comments on presidential election but pundits say it may not be unconnected with the rumours that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan may seek for re-election in 2015, adding that if the president declares his intention, as an Anglican, the church will definitely work for him. ###
