The attention of the Third Force Movement, an elite group in the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the publication in THISDAY Newspapers of 2 July 2014 by the Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike’s Forum of PDP Local Government Chairmen in Rivers State, who have shamelessly called on him to contest for the gubernatorial ticket in the upcoming Rivers State PDP primaries.
We state categorically that there are laid down procedures in the PDP constitution that defines the modalities for forming the Executive Committee (EXCO) of the State PDP. Chief Wike’s State EXCO clearly did not follow this laid down process, and so, neither can they nor their unreasoned publication gain any form of recognition and acceptance from the members of the PDP in Rivers State.
As core members of the PDP who cannot be cajoled by the court decision in the case sponsored by Chief Wike against our great party- Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/10/ 2014 – Chukwuemeka Aaron v. INEC, PDP and Obuah Felix Amaechi, that purports to usurp the functions of the National Chairman and National Leadership of the PDP; we call on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP to wield the big stick and suspend all those who benefited in the suit sponsored by Wike through his subject, Mr. Chukwuemaka Aaron the purported Chairman of the Obio/ Akpor chapter of the party.
We condemn the actions of Wike who rather than show gratitude to the PDP for providing a platform which has elevated him to great heights, has decided to operate in a manner that undermines the fundamental functions of our great party at the National level and threaten the peace and tranquility of our beloved Rivers state. Wike’s sincerity to the PDP has been called to question because he has been more interested in binding the party structure at the national and state level in chains, ostensibly to give him supreme control of the process of securing the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP for Rivers State.
Otherwise, which well-meaning politician needs to secure a court order in his favor without due consultation and approval from leaders of his party as a precondition for working for the party?
It is a general notion to Rivers people that; for Wike, nothing matters more than presenting a situation of political rancour in Rivers State and building on such disunity to solidify his intentions of clinging to the PDP Gubernatorial ticket for Rivers State. Let it be known to all and sundry that Rivers People, even those that are presumably in the APC are one hundred percent for President Jonathan.
We believe that our President has performed beyond expectations, and so; beyond ethnicity and party divides in Rivers State, every body from the State will vote for him, we believe that even Governor Amaechi with all his rantings will vote for President Jonathan.
Therefore, the presentation of Wike that often fronts Amaechi as an excuse to hijack the PDP structure of the State and undermine those at the National level should be studied with caution.
Wike’s political antecedents has proved him to be a greedy and an ill-willed politician who is after the purse of Rivers State rather than the good of the State. He is not the type of candidate that PDP
should think of presenting for the Rivers State Governorship race, if he is presented, PDP will fall in Rivers State, and the ripple effect of the disgust associated with Wike will jeorpardise the chances of President Jonathan wining the 2015 elections in Rivers State. We urge the PDP National EXCO and NWC to dissolve the Wike’s Rivers PDP EXCO and suspend Mr. Chukwuemeka Aaron alongside others who benefited from the judgment delivered by Justice Evoh Chuku without delay for the party to gain strength in Rivers State. We also urge the national Leader of the PDP, President Goodluck Jonathan to consider strongly the antics of Wike’s politics that negates the principle of zoning which is in the PDP’s constitution and most recently buttressed by the ongoing National Constitutional Conference.
