Constituency II: Asalga Vanguard Makes Case For Cernorsia Group

Ahead of next year’s general election, a socio-political group in the Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State known as ASALGA Vanguard has declared that it is the turn of the Cernorsia group to produce someone to occupy the Asalga Constituency II Seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The group made this known shortly after its general meeting in Port Harcourt on Monday. The chairman of the ASALGA Vanguard, Comrade Ibubelem Bereiworiso averred that the Asalga Constituency is made up of eight (8) wards, regretting that only the wards in (Orupoku/Lelema group) within Buguma Community that are producing Assembly members to representing the constituency since the creation of Asari-Toru Local Government Area in May, 1989.

Comrade Bereiworiso frowned at politicians within Orupoku/Lelema group for making the constituency seat as their “birthright”, which he described as “undemocratic and called for change.

The ASALGA Vanguard said that for the purposes of equity and fairplay, the Cernorsia group must be allowed to feature a candidate to occupy the Asalga Constituency II Seat in the RSHA.

The ASALGA Vanguard Chairman recalled that in the past two (2) decades the people of Cernorsia group have been marginalized as regards to who occupies the Constituency II seat in the State Assembly.

According to him, between 1992 to 1994, Mrs. Hon. Daisy West occupied the seat, in 1999 – 2003, Hon. Godstime Ben Horsfall was voted to represent the Constituency in the State Assembly, in 2003 – 2011, Chief Hon. Ibinabo Michael West represented the Constituency and in 2011 to date, Hon. Ben Horsfall returned to the seat for a second time.

Comrade Bereiworiso said that, “all these people who occupy the seat are from Orupoku/Lelema bloc, so let us be fair to ourselves whatever thing we are doing is this life”.

He called on aspirants from the Orupoku/Lelema who are gunning for the plum job in 2015 to sink their ambition and allow the Cernorsia group to field candidate for the ASALGA Constituency II Seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly.###
