APC Chieftains, Clergy Allege Intimidation, Security Threat In Ekiti Guber Election

Despite insinuation that the Ekiti State governorship election which ousted the incumbent governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and elected Mr. Ayodele Fayose was adjudged credible and fair election. APC members have described the election as one characterized by the security threats and intimidation of the APC chieftains.

It would be recalled that prior to the Saturday’s election the All Progressives Congress, APC chieftains including Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the governor of Rivers State, Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo Sate and Rochas Okorocha of Imo State were ambushed and refused entry into the Ekiti State on Thursday on the way to a final rally of the APC in the state by armed soldiers and security personnel who said they were acting on the order from above while they allowed Obanikoro, the Minister of State for Defence, Minister of Police Affairs and Minister for Defence assess to the state.

Some of the APC members who spoke with journalists at election lamented that the security operatives sent by the Federal troop were hard on them.

According to Hon. Fayode Ojo, an APC chieftain who is also the Director of Microfinance Agency in Ekiti State while in a chat with journalists at the election venue said the security operatives sent by the Federal Government were hard on them.

According to him prior to the election the security operatives arrested him and took him to a police station were they detained him between three to four hours alleging that he was sharing money to the party members, but when he denied the allegation and asked them to search his pockets, they discovered that the allegation was false and he was released.

Hon Ojo further hinted that the security operatives also arrested and detained over twenty APC leaders in Ekiti state on frivolous allegations in order to prevent them from casting their votes.

Similarly, Hon. Sunday Alimor, an APC chieftain and a former House of Assembly member in Ekiti House of Assembly expressed disappointment on the security operatives who were hard on members of the APC during the election.

According to him democracy in Nigeria in the present administration is no longer democracy, anyone who opposes the government’s bad policies they will use the security agencies to attack such individual describing the situation as uncalled for.

He lamented the manner in which security operative arrested APC members without justification of allegations.

In a chat with journalists, Rev. Tope Olu Daramola the General Overseer of the Royal Priesthood Ministry in Ekiti State described President Jonathan’s administration as Military administration.

He lamented the manner in which President Jonathan uses soldiers to intimidate and harass opposition members of APC at the Ekiti Election describing the scenario as very sad. ###
