The Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria VGN, Rivers State Command, Mr. Mambo Wilcox may have been proved right when he recently challenged the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. RotimiChibuike Amaechi to “embrace Vigilante Group of Nigeria and enjoy relative peace in the state”.
The reason for the challenge according to Wilcox was his confidence that his men that are well grounded in all nooks and crannies of the 23 LGAs of Rivers state know who is who in their respective localities and easy to locate who does whatever in such area.
What transpired at Ihuaba Community in Ahoada East LGA of Rivers State on the 25th of May, 2014 about 3:am was another confirmation of the good works that men of the VGN are selflessly rendering to the people of Nigeria, across the nation.
According to the VGN Commander in Ahoada East LGA, Mr. Justine Kings Ayah, a group of kidnappers, numbering 9 evaded the home of Late Thompson Bob in Ihuaba Community at about 3am, kidnapped his two aged widows and demanded for a ransom payment of N20m and later reduced it to N18m.
Commander Ayah disclosed that the family of Late Thompson Bob had already pleaded with the kidnappers for N3m before they were informed of the development. He maintained that in the course of their investigation, they were able to know that the kidnappers are from the same community with the kidnapped widows.
Ayah also pointed out that they were able to discover out that the widows were kidnapped in Ahoada East LGA and taken to a forest in Rumuodogo 2 in Emohua, Emohua LGA of Rivers State, adding that after combing the forest, described as dump site of the kidnappers for 3 consecutive times, that they gave a call to the kidnappers, informing them that they have known them already and the need to release the widows unconditionally and without harm.
The VGN Ahoada Commander opined that their threat to the Chief of Rumuodogo 2 Community, Chief AtayaIsih, that the entire village will be burnt down if the widows were not released, prompted the kidnappers to abandon the widows in the forest and took to their heels.
Ayah stressed that the matter was reported to the Joint Task Force, JTF and that their swift response made their collective search for the widows in the forest easy and subsequently rescued them.
The VGN LGA Commander however, noted that one of the abductors of Madams Mary and Comfort Thompson Bob (Widows), Mr. Gift James was apprehended by men of the VGN and handed over to the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), for further investigation, while Mr. Grass, Mr. Faith and 6 others absconded.
