The Director of Total Sports, sports shop, Leon Ukandu, has given reasons why he is sponsoring sporting activities and budding sporting talents in Rivers State.
According to him, it gives him joy to see people come together in the name of friendship and oneness, he is doing all these to drive joy in seeing lots of youths find their feet in sports in doing so they are also putting food on the table of their families and for themselves.
He intimated our sports desk that he likes seeing people live happily anywhere he goes, adding that he is not a richman yet but he likes sharing the little he has with the people he sees around him.
Believing that the world will be a better place if the same gesture is past around to the next neighbour by those who benefits from him.
Asked why is doing what he is doing, that he some much dwell on sports, he said sports gives him the avenue to see people come together easily.
To buttress his point, he said no matter how two brothers or communities are in enmity the moment the national football team is playing another country’s team, all will forget their enmity and will come together to support the Nigeria national football team.
Leon Ukandu has sponsored lot of soccer tournament through people, most remarkable among them is the national u-17 soccer team coached by Emmanuel Amunike.
He had sponsored 19 players out of Port Harcourt on his own, single handedly, all financial and logistic involved to the national side.
Just recently he sponsored Amunike to conduct 2-days open screening in Port Harcourt where a total of 19 players were discovered for the national u-17 soccer team. He also sponsored 12 players from Rivers State and 7 players from Imo State to the national 9 player discovered from Port Harcourt to the U-17 side, Ipalibo Harry is doing well in the colours of U-17 team.
Speaking to our sports desk recently on arrival from China his base, he said, he will never be deter in doing what he believes even as the Rivers State government has not recognized him.
He said his interest is to see the youths make use of their sporting talent to build their life.
However, he said he looks forward to partnering with the Rivers State government in sports development since he has his sports shop in Rivers State, Port Harcourt. ###
