Stakeholders Disagreed Over Demolition of Rumuigbo Civic Centre

CHIEF ANTHONY WOSUReactions have continued to trail the recent demolition of Rumuigbo Civic Centre in Obio/Akpor LGA of Rivers State by the order of the Chief of Staff, Government House, Chief Tony Okocha, an indigene of Rumuigbo clan.

Expressing his view on the development, Chief Anthony E. Wosu, Eze Out-onu of Ekinigbo Clan said that the demolition and reconstruction of the civic centre never followed due process which has to do with the norms and tradition of Ekinigbo people.

Chief Wosu pointed out that they were not informed about the demolition and reconstruction of the Community Civic Centre, since the centre was built on the collective efforts of Rumuigbo people without any government support, hence the need to get all parties involved in that regard.

He maintained that those who planned to execute the demolition has only succeeded in destroying the only monument that had kept the people together, irrespective of party affiliations.

Wosu who maintained that they are not against any development in the community, added that the people must be informed and carried along in any project that is taking place in their area. Chief Out-onu opined that they are looking up to the three months that has been stipulated by Chief Okocha as the timeframe for the completion of the new civic centre.

He blamed the none adherence to the advise handed down to the people of Ekinigbo by Late Senator Obi Wali that they should not bring politics to the affairs and administration of Ekinigbo clan, as reason for the ugly political situation in their community.

Eze Otu-onu, however, called on the people of Ekinigbo, particularly the youths to be mindful of what they do, whom they follow, adding that the present position of Ekinigbo in the state government, would have afforded them the opportunity of producing Directors.

On the way forward, Chief Wosu enjoined the people of Ekinigbo to go back to the advise of late Obi Wali as the only panacea to the return of peace and stability in the community. ###
