The demolition that took place at the ongoing construction of the East-West Road in Rivers State has been described as the source of hardship experienced by women traders at Rumuodomaya community market in the Obio/Akpor LGA of the state.
In a chat with The Newswriter, Mr. Wobo Elenwo, chairman of the market, who decried the ongoing difficult situation women are facing as pathetic as some of them just paid their annual shop rent before the demolition exercise.
On his effort to cushion the effect of the hardship, Mr. Elenwo said that they are only waiting for the completion of the road, in order to know what space is left for them or better still put up a new market that will accommodate all and sundry in the market.
The market boss who opined that they are aware of what the women are going through in the market urged them to be patient with the market authority, assuring that things will be put in the right place in a short while.
Elenwo who blamed the political situation in the state as another reason that have weighted down the level of sales in the market in terms of cash flow used the medium to commend the Community Development Committee (CDC) chairman of Rumuodomaya Community for the opportunity given to him to serve as the market chairman.
He added that the creation of path ways in the market that are free from water-log by his administration, among others have helped to boost the economic activities of the market.###
