Re: Bakana Kingship Is Not For Sale

My attention is drawn to a recent publication in The Newswriter, newspaper of May 8, 2014, under the above caption, in which one Ibani Innocent Douglas Braide claimed to be the Amadabo of Bakana.

I am calling on Bakana people and the public to discountenance such claims and regard them as the imagination of a pervert mind. Ibani Braide and his ilk are the type, who cause trouble by attempting to stifle the truth and distort justice. Maybe he is naive or ignorant of the fact of Suit No. PHC/193/84 between the Odum Royal House of Bakana and the Igbanibo Will-Braide House of Bakana, to which he belongs, over the paramount stool of Bakana, in which judgment was passed in 2002.

Ibani Braide has never had a positive reputation in his life. He is a confirmed fraud, who have had series of encounters with the police and the law courts over his fraudulent activities he uses lies and subterfuge to cause confusion and create problems, and thereafter, makes his profits from the chaotic situation. It is a big lie that Ibani Braide was “selected and elected” as Amadabo of Bakana. I ask, by whom? Was it by those whom he deceived by giving them letters of elevation as elders in his compound? Has he told the world that those who purportedly “selected and elected” him, vehemently rejected his claims and rebuked him? Well meaning Bakana people know that even in his compound he is not reckoned with. He is a man whose stock in trade are deceit, lies, subterfuge, deception and all other negative traits one can think of. He is alleging that the incumbent and authentic Amadabo of Bakana, HRH, O. O. Odum viii is not it, but he uses the letter press of the King to commit all sorts of fraudulent activities. THIS MAN IS ACTING CONTRARY TO COURT RULING WHICH AMOUNTS TO CONTEMPT. I am using this medium to call on the relevant authorities like the police and the justice ministry to bring this man to book because what he is doing is an aberration. His activities are always shrouded in controversy, dubiousness and question mark. He is known to have defrauded fifty million naira (N50,000,00.00) royalty claims accruing to his compound. Due to his dubious acts, he was deposed as a chief in Bakana and Kalabari as a whole. He accords himself the title of captain of the Nigerian Army, but I make bold to say he went on AWOL and was never discharged, nor retired from the army. Let him present an authentic discharge certificate to contravene my claim. He has never looked clean, he is always unkempt, tattered and haggard looking. An educated illiterate of a high order, and so many people consider him to be harmless. But they say a stitch in time saves nine; if this man is not called to order, his activities may cause another round off carnage in the community. That is why I am pleading with the law enforcement agencies to nip this potential mayhem in the bud, by arresting this man and calling him to order.

For record purposes, and to put facts right and clear, the Will-Braide House in Bakana felt they were supreme to the Odum Royal House-under whose umbrella Igbanibo Will-Braide got to Bakana. The matter was registered in court in 1984, and judgment passed in favour of the Odum Royal House, whose head is HRH, O.O. Odum viii Their subsequent appeals were dismissed, struck out, or withdrawn. The most recent of which was on March, 2014. Below are bromides of the count judgments and decisions.

He was made Kombo-Agolia iii by HRH, 0.0. Odum viii. He paid the installation fee of that ceremony to HRH, 0.0. Odum viii, who installed him at the Odum square, including Chief Telema Duke. So, what is he contravening? He doesn’t belong to any group in Bakana due to his dubious acts.

Now, to the genealogy of rulers, Ibani got it wrong or, as is his usual self, he is being economical with the truth. Odum was succeeded by Otaji Long-Will, who was succeeded by KomboAgolia (Will-Braide) as Odum iii. Kombo-Agolia was succeeded by Alambo as Odum iv. However, Alambo lost the Okarki war, and was deposed. Igbanibo ascended the throne as Odum v and was succeeded by Marion Braide as Odum vi. After the death of Marion Braide, there was an interregnum on the Odum stool due to a succession of death of aspirants. In 1977, Pakama Alamboye-Suku ascended the throne as Odum vii and died in 1988 and HRH, 0. 0. Odum viii was selected and installed as the head of the Odum Barboy House. Ibani Douglas Braide was among the Will-Braides that fought members and supporters of the Odum Barboy House. They were legally defeated and are now taking refuge as members of the Odum House, forgetting that they fought against the Odum House. He listed Alamboye-Suku as one of the rulers, but he is totally wrong there. Alamboye-Suku never ascended the throne of Odum because his father Alamboye, who was Odum iv was deposed, and so, his descendants were barred from the throne. So, Alamboye-Suku cannot, be since he is a descendant of Alambo.

Due to that interregnum to the Odum stool, the Will-Braides decided to create the Igbanibo Will-Braide stool and started to parade themselves. But on 1, November 1939, the Kalabari clan warned the Will-Braides that only the descendants of Odum can claim rulership of Bakana. Ibani Innocent Douglas Braide is from the Igbanibo Will-Braides ‘aggrieved stuff because of loss of litigations over rulership of Bakana. Ibani Braide should be called to order by the authorities before he unleashes mayhem in Bakana.
