Niger Delta artistes, under the aegis of Niger Delta Born Artistes have declared their total support for the candidacy of Dr. Goodluck Ebelle Jonathan and Barr (Chief) Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike as the Presidential and Rivers State governorship candidates respectively under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 general elections.
The group with over 10, 000 members spread across the nine states of the region, came out with this at the end of their meeting which took place at the Red Cross Secretariat along Station Road, Port Harcourt on Monday with the various states represented by their chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Secretaries.
Speaking at the end of the crucial meeting, the President of the body, Comr. Sample Siereh Jnr said the group took the decision because of their strong conviction that the duo President Jonathan and Barr. Wike have what it takes to transform the country and Rivers State.
He noted that President Jonathan still remains the effective bridge to proactively give Nigeria the needed change that the country earnestly yearns for, pointing out that the President’s impeccable record of achievements between 2011 to date prove that he remains the only individual at this present time to give the country effective leadership.
“We are not unaware of the milestone of all-round achievement President Goodluck Jonathan has recorded in Nigeria: is it in the Power Sector, Petroleum, Education, Health and most importantly, championing the recent unprecedented record of making Nigeria the biggest economy in Africa. The least we can do, at this point, is to allow him consolidate on his successes in giving the country the needed leadership for the good of the generality of the masses,” the leader of the group stated.
On who emerges as the governor of Rivers State in 2015, Comr. Siereh Jnr stated that Rivers State chapter of the group, having weighed the capabilities and antecedents of potential candidates have no choice but to unanimously adopt the Supervising Minister of Education, Hon. (Barr) Wike for the office.
He maintained that Chief Wike posses all the qualities needed to attain a paradigm shift in getting the next governor of the state. Comr. Siereh Jnr explained that Barr. Wike has risen from the rung of the political ladder of the state and knows the real problems of the people of the grassroots.
According to him, “Barr (Chief) Nyesom Wike is presently the only individual to contain the force of the power that be in the state. He has all that it takes to face the battle head-on. Being a resilient politician and a go-getter, Barr. Wike remains the only individual that strongly face the storm in the state. That is why we are strongly pitching our tent behind him and urging him to pick up the gauntlet by contesting in the 2015 governorship election under PDP.”
The group’s president went on to commend the effort of their patron and a former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state, Hon. Vincent Nemieboka in promoting the interest of President Goodluck Jonathan in the state. He pointed out that the PDP big-wigs have really helped in the sustenance of the group and described him as a real conscientious individual.
