There was a melo-drama in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State as armed soldiers stormed the council secretariat and demanded a total sum of N10m debt from the Council Chairman, Hon. Aye Atamah Pepple, the money he allegedly owes a contractor handling a particular project in the area.
Information reaching our news room at the weekend, disclosed that the soldiers were called by the contractor to arrest the council boss since he has failed to pay the debt he owes him as he (contractor) has done with the project.
According to eyewitness account when the council chairman sighted the soldiers and the contractor, he immediately escaped through the back door and the military officers and the contractor ran after him. Our correspondent reported that Hon. Atamah Pepple was caught by the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) and he was forced to issue a cheque of N10m for the said contractor.
Meanwhile, the report filed in by our correspondent had it that, the contractor with the help of the soldiers confiscated some properties of the council which include: council vehicles and other properties.
The contractor has vowed to take serious action against the council chairman, if the bank fails to honour the cheque he (Hon Atamah Pepple) issued to him. ###
