Pay Us Our Check-Off Dues, Health Workers Tells LGAs Chairmen

The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Rivers State Council affiliated to Nigeria Labour Congress, has cried out to the Rivers State Head of Service and Local Government Service Commission that the local government chairmen in the various 23 Local Government Council Areas in Rivers State have conspired with the leaders of NULGE in the State to deduct the health workers check-off due for NULGE.

Comr. Beatrice Itubo (JP), the State Chairman of Medical and Health Workers Union told journalists in her office that her administration has not received the health workers check-off dues from their local governments. “How do you thing we can be able to fight for the welfare of our members who are working in this local government areas who are facing injustice and they needed justice. The objective of the association is to fight for the members for example those of them who have gone for their promotion exercise, but did not have the financial promotion benefit, we would come out to fight for them, because it is their right” Itubo said.

The Rivers State MHWUN boss said that the Local Government Chairmen and the leader of NULGE in Rivers State conspired together, collecting the check-off dues. She appealed to the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission to intervene and asked NULGE to stop collecting check-off dues that are meant for the health workers in 23 local governments of Rivers State.

Comr. Itubo (JP) called on the Rivers State Local Government Chairmen to do what is right by handing over the file of the medical and health workers in their various LGAs to the Rivers State Primary Health Care Board.

She also advised the council chairmen to stop further deduction of her members check-off dues to the NULGE.

She also accused the Community Health Practitioners parading themselves with the Corporate Affairs Commission certificate of registration as a trade group, from the registrar of the trade union they do not have the registrar number as a trade group with the Federal Ministry of Labour

She also further stated that during the health week in Abuja they were briefed about the National and Health Insurance Scheme that the philosophy was to ensure that every citizen benefited from the National Health Insurance Scheme through its Health Micro-Insurance Programme for all.

She noted that the Rives State National Health Insurance Scheme coordinator did not contact the Nigerian Labour Congress to easy her job for the benefit of the Rivers people. She appeal to the Rivers NHIS to partner with the Medical and Health Workers Union with other organization who can not be able to pay their medical bill, like the low income earners. ###
