Stop Insurgency In Nigeria

Unequivocally, Nigeria is at war with itself, due to the ever increasing violence, especially at the Northern part of the country. The country witnesses civil disturbances on daily basis which take different dreaded forms such as kidnapping, killings, violence, indiscriminate bombing and other social vices.

The ungodly activities of the insurgents seem to defile every security measure.

The members of the Boko Haram sect attempted a jail break at the national headquarters of the Department of the State Security Services (DSS), Abuja. In the process according to security report 21 insurgents were killed.

About 237 school girls from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State were adopted by unknown gunmen suspected to be Islamic fundamentalists and three weeks after their whereabout is still cloudy. Parents of these abducted school girls are passing through trauma and excruciating pain. Nothing can pacify them except the return of their children.

There was a bomb blast at a bus terminal, Abuja penultimate week that claimed over 79 persons, while hundreds of persons sustained various degrees of injury.

We begin to question the effectiveness of the nation’s security system. We are not happy as billions of naira have been approved and signed as security vote for public office holders, while Nigerians are dying day by day through terrorism. Nobody seems to know where the problem is coming from. How can an inmate will be using mobile cell phone while in detention in the cell of the Department of the State Security Services (DSS) Abuja. Boko Haram has been infiltrated into all the nooks and crannies of the nation’s security apparatus.

If our security system is so porous that a government cannot discharge its major statutory responsibility of maintenance of law and order, then it is our plea that the presidency should seek help from international community so as to curb the looming “civil war” in the country. ###
