The Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has said that Boko Haram is a political structure set up against President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election in 2015.
Asari-Dokubo spoke at the weekend at the fourth edition of the South-South Youth Leaders and Elders Interactive Forum in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
According to him, the task before the Islamist sect was to instill fear in Christians in the northern part of the country, so that they would not come out during election to cast their votes for Jonathan.
He said Jonathan must go for a second term, emphasising that the insurgent group had nothing to do with Islam.
”All they want is political power. Boko Haram has nothing to do with Islam. Boko Haram is a political movement to foist leadership on Nigeria. Nigeria is of much treasure to them.
“They want to weaken the northern Christians not to vote for Jonathan in 2015. They are chasing all the Christians in the north from their communities”.
Asari-Dokubo, however, advised President Jonathan to watch his back, stressing that some of the people around him represent the interest of his political enemies.
Also, Chairman of the event, Prof.Kimse Okoko, who is also a member of the National Conference, said there were those determined on sabotaging the good works of President Jonathan”.
Earlier, Chairman of the group, Mr. Amachree Odiedim, said the essence of the interaction was to ensure a healthy relationship between the elders and youths in the region.
