Sports lovers, old boys, politicians and opinion leaders last Saturday converged at the playground of the Kalabari National College, Buguma, headquarters of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State to witness its 75th annual inter-house sports competition.
Speaking at the occasion, the principal of the school, Dr. Gibson Sokari George lamented that despite the institute had produced great men in different fields of endeavor, in recent time the college past through terrible situations such as lack of teachers, teaching equipment, current reference materials and other academic facilities until the intervention of some spirited individuals.
“We salute the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, HRM King (Prof) T.J.T Princewill and his Council of Chiefs who caused the transfer of my humble self and 18 other teachers in almost all the subject areas into KNC. They even went further to motivate the teachers by paying them some stipend”, the principal said.
He commended the members of KANACOL 85, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Kings Palace, the National body of the Old Boys Association of the school, Mr. Temebo Amachree and other well-meaning individuals, for their immense contributions towards the growth and the development of the school.
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Mr. S.K. Harry applauded the students for their peaceful disposition and the spirit of sportsmenship exhibited during the competition. He charged them to shun cultism and other related social vices and concentrate on their studies.
At the end of the competition, Buguma House lifted the trophy with 250 points, Crowther House came second with 231 points, the third position goes to Wilberforce House with 225 points. Livingstone House gripped the fourth position by scoring 219 points and the Brooklyn House took the fifth position, scoring 207 points, while the Aggrey House scored 204 points to take the sixth position. ###
